Thank you to all the grandparents and special guests who attended our second annual Grandparents Brunch this morning! We had a wonderful turn out. It was so exciting to see The Wildwoods brimming with family and friends of MRA. I took great pleasure in seeing some familiar faces, and meeting some new as well.
As I shared with our guests in Alder East this morning, we have been writing "Friendly Letters" this past week. The theme of our letters was: What I am thankful for. Today, students took turns sharing their writing with grandmas, grandpas, aunts uncles, moms and dads. It was moving to watch. I also shared something that I'm thankful for, that is, being a teacher at this school. I explained that I grew up in Canby, and am the daughter of two former teachers, and the granddaughter three former teachers. All of my relatives went on to other careers or vocations, but I came to teaching later in life, after all my kids were attending school. I chose to go to graduate school, to pursue a Masters in Teaching in 2009. I graduated from George Fox in April of 2011, and was hired here in June. I feel like I've come full circle, as my grandfather, Ray Reif, began his teaching career just down the road, at Molalla High School. I am thankful every day that I am able to teach these special kids. Thank you for sharing them with me.
Next week will be a short week, with Thanksgiving Thursday, and no school Friday, as we relax, or shop till we drop. Whatever way you choose to celebrate, enjoy.
